Formal and informal meals have different soup plates. Formal dinner soup plates are usually lower in height; in this instance, the bowl is about nine to ten inches wide with rims that measure one inch. A shallow bowl usually comes with an underplate. You should serve the soups in soup bowls which do not have rims or are saucer-like coupe bowls.
