Domain Hosting For Beginners

A domain hosting service is a kind of Internet hosting service that enables people and organizations to create their own website accessible through the World Wide Web.

This service comes with the use of a domain, which is also known as an address in the technical jargon. The name is given by the provider or the owner when he decides to avail of this service.

There are two types of hosting services, dedicated and shared. These are, however, not the only two options available.

Features to consider

One of the common features of this kind of service is the ability to store files and other information about the website and to permit access from any part of the globe, at any time.

Another advantage of domain hosting is that it helps create an online identity for an organization. This is achieved by having a physical address for all the emails that have to be sent out and received by the employees.

With a domain, an organization can manage its emails. Free email hosting services are used when a business operates with a small number of employees.

Unlimited email accounts are another feature that most hosts offer.

This enables the users to create unlimited email accounts for the employees.

Things to consider when choosing a hosting provider

To find out whether the service offered by the domain host is the best overall choice, it is important to evaluate all the options in front of you.

A comparison of the features offered by different hosts will enable you to determine which the better option is. A comparison should be made between the services of different registrars.

It should include a look at the free services as well as the paid ones.

Should I go for VPS hosting?

One of the features that should be included by the hosting plan is VPS or Virtual Private Servers. As the name suggests, virtual private servers are established on the server of another company like scala hosting.

Hence, the company offering the service has multiple domains on multiple servers. This gives the customers the opportunity to establish multiple domains on the same servers at a lesser cost.

The monthly starting price of these VPS packages is less than that of the dedicated servers.

Many organizations make use of the generic top-level domains, which are part of the basic plan. These are offered at relatively lower prices.

However, they do not offer any extra benefits like the private, secure servers.

Hence, the users are not able to enjoy the same level of security as they get when using the top-level domains. If you need additional security for your website, you must go for the dedicated domains instead of the generic top-level domain.

Difference b/w premium and basic plans

Another factor that affects the monthly starting price of the domain hosting is the support provided by the service provider.

There are many companies that provide this type of support while some others don’t.

Hence, it is important that you choose the one that provides reliable support.

Many companies offer managed services for their domains; hence, the price is based on the number of domains.

If you need extra support then you have to choose the unmanaged option. However, if you need only minimal support then the monthly starting price of the plan remains the same.

When choosing from the various domains, make sure that the plan comes with free software to improve your web presence.

Some of the best domain hosts in the market come with WordPress as an integral part of the plan.

This enables you to host all your blogs in WordPress and use all the social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, etc.

This helps you to save money that you would have otherwise used to paying a web designer to host your blog.

Points to think on while selecting a best-hosting provider

Have you ever think of Top hosting services before? If not, maybe you should. There are so many hosting companies out there today that want your business but all of them offer one thing – cheap prices.

In order to get a cheap price, they usually sacrifice a lot of features and functionality.

Scala Hosting is one of those companies that are known for their high quality services at a low price. Even though they have been around since 1999, they still remain to be the leading provider of virtual private servers.

What is a VPS?

That’s simple – a virtual private server is just like a dedicated server, but instead of having your own server, you share one with other customers.

In order to find the best web hosting services, there are certain things that you need to consider. For example, do you know what hosts have the best time?

It is quite common that when a client comes to ecommerce platform, he’ll probably expect his site to be live most of the time.

With ecommerce hosting, this isn’t always the case. A lot of times, you’ll experience a slight delay as your site is being upgraded.

When looking for the best web hosting services, you should also consider the type of hosting that they offer.

Aside from the things we just mentioned earlier, you should also look into the different types of hosting that they offer.

There are actually two major types of hosting services – shared and reseller hosting. Each of these has their own pros and cons. In this article, we will talk about the two hosting types and see which one is best for your needs.

Shared Hosting –

As the name implies, Shared Hosting is when a number of websites share the same server. This is often the most economical option among all the other options.

The problem with Shared Hosting is that it can create traffic delays.

This is especially true if you have lots of visitors to your site or if your website tends to use a lot of resources.

If you want to use in motion hosting, you’ll probably find it a lot more reliable and much faster.

Reseller Hosting –

Another very popular hosting type is the Reseller Hosting. If you’re going to resell a portion of your server (with your own name), then you can get a lot more website space for a lower price than with shared hosting.

Unlimited Bandwidth Hosting –

This type of hosting is a bit tricky.

So, how do you go about finding an unlimited bandwidth and at an affordable price? One of the best ways to go about this is to purchase a package.

Bluehost, along with other companies like my hosts etc, offer packages that include a lot of bandwidth and disk space for a lot less than the regular rate.

Two Popular Hosting Options –

There are plenty of other popular hosting plans out there, but two of the most commonly used are the cPanel and the billing system.

Both of these systems are easy to use and highly efficient. However, cPanel hosting offers unlimited functionality and is ideal for small business.

A lot of people choose cPanel for their blogging sites. A popular hosting service, a2, also uses cPanel and is also extremely efficient for small businesses.

Doing single-speed tests makes very little sense.

Let us now consider the first problem.

A small number of tests should be done manipulatively to draw the necessary conclusions. For example, you could run multiple hosting speed tests and choose one or more of them that look good and will add to the sale of that host.

In other words, it’s pure manipulation.

If you’ve read my research on website speed and hosting speed, you already know that I run 100 to about 6,000-speed tests to draw my conclusions for each test instance. Measurement is not the point.

There’s a big reason you need to run multiple website or hosting speed tests if you want realistic results.

And that’s because hosts and websites are generally unstable speeds. Let me repeat that again.

In other words, the speed of the website or hosting you are testing can fluctuate a lot in a short period of time.

And measured against an atypical peak performance, the speed estimate is not realistic at all.

Because of this, it takes a lot of speed tests to get a realistic speed estimate. For example, consider the following screenshot from one of the hosts I am monitoring 24/7/365 (speed tests for each test site run every 20 minutes):

Hosting speed monitoring Hosting speed fluctuations over a day As you can see, the average speed measured on my test website for this 24 hour interval is 3.03 seconds.

This is the (realistic) average speed for that day.

Note that if you are running a single test (or multiple tests), there is a good chance you will encounter at much faster or slower intervals. See the same table with my notes:

Slower Hosting Speed Monitoring and Faster Intervals Hosting Speed Fluctuations – Difference From Average So if I wanted to criticize or praise this hosting, for example, you could just run a handful of tests and pick the worst (approx. 5 seconds) or the best speed (about 2 seconds) test results.

So, single speed tests would generally give you 2 to 5 seconds of speed.

Adequate range for handling! And even if you did not want to manipulate the representation of the accommodation speed, you should know that only the individual tests are not sufficient, as they are not reliable.

You need to run at least several speed tests and analyze the results (e.g. calculate the average) so that you can better judge the speed of your website or hosting.

Running server response time tests instead of speed tests makes even less sense The second problem is people are using time tests down to the first byte instead of full page load time tests.

\First-byte-time tests are 100 times cheaper than full-page load-time tests. It is for this reason that some people use this method to rate hosting speed or website speed.

Testing total page load time (how fast the website loads from a visitor’s point of view) is the right way to measure hosting speed.

And the time to the first byte is only a small part of the page’s full load time. First Byte doesn’t really correlate to overall hosting speed (only certain hosts can.)

Here is the screenshot of the Time to First Byte (TTFB) test results (Uptime / TTFB tests for each test site run every minute):

Server response time monitoring, graphic of the day And same graphic but with dots instead of lines.
