Best Shopping Tips to Save Money

Whether it’s the holidays or you’re splurging, who doesn’t like saving money and knowing that you found the best deals from using chrome extensions to credit cards and some not so obvious ways in this article, you’ll be saving and putting a bunch more money back into your pockets so let’s jump right in. Here is the updated coupon codes on all international brand.

Shop when there are Sales

Shop when there are sales with so many holidays throughout the year businesses will use any excuse they can to put up a sale and attract more customers.

  • Black Friday
  • Boxing day
  • Anniversary sales
  • Out of season sales

These are all great times to shop and save, but how do you keep track of all these sales? You could sign up for newsletters for certain stores and then get notified via email whenever there’s a sale, or you could use Coupon silver which is formerly known as shop tagged, to help keep track of these items. Tools like these are like a personal assistant that you can store certain things that you want to buy and then get notified when things are back in stock or stores have sales on those items it’s free to use, and they probably make money on the back end by driving traffic to these stores so if you’re okay with that then there’s no harm not sponsored.

On the other hand, you can monitor sites like Slickdeals.net, which is what I do. Sites like these are community-driven, so if you see things on the front page that have been voted up, it’s probably a good deal. You could even dive into the comments to see what people are saying if it’s a good or bad deal, or maybe there are some better alternatives if you regularly use the site. There’s also a section curated just for you of deals they think you’ll like based on your interests. I know when I buy something, I always go to the community, whether it be slick deals comments or Reddit comments, to see what people are saying about certain products, and if you’re in Canada the same equivalent of slick deals, there are red flag deals, and one more thing I want to mention about sales is that you should make sure that they’re actually sales there are stores out there that always have sales.

If you’re shopping on Amazon you could use sites like “camel camel camel” that will show you the historical price of an item so you know if you’re getting it at a good price or not.

Cashback Sites

Use cashback sites that will give you anywhere from a few per cent up to 10% to 20% cashback on your purchases on these stores. The most popular one is Rakuten, but there are a ton of other similar sites out there too, although for those of you who are using American express cards Rakuten actually lets you redeem the cashback for points instead and if you know the value of American express membership reward points then you know that you could get upwards of 2cents/point of value when redeeming it for the right things that are basically like getting double the return on Rakuten.

So to do a quick check to see if there are cashback sites for the store that you’re shopping on you could use sites like cashback monitor though it may not have the most up-to-date percentages for that and to automate things even more, you could use chrome extension that will automatically notify you if the store you’re on as cashback.

Rakuten honey and retailmenot but there are others out there like Max Rebates, Be frugal, Top cashback and lemon and you will get back almost 500 in cashback as well as 12,000 American express points.

Look Out For Coupons

Buying something significant, always google the “Store name” + Coupon in google to see if there are any coupon codes out there. Sometimes a few seconds of work can save you a ton. Unlike cashback, there are extensions that do this for you, too like Honey and Slick deals which will just pop up whenever there are coupons for that site and also automatically try each one for you and let you know which one is the best. You can save a lot of money using these extensions with the most recent one being twenty dollars off a local cabin getaway also usually, sites will give you like ten per cent off when you first sign up to their newsletter, which you can do every time you wanna make a purchase.

Using a Credit Card Over a Debit Card

You should always use a credit card over a debit card not only for the protection you get like extended warranty return and purchase protection, but also because of the point multipliers for multipliers some cards like the chase freedom flex or the city custom cash card offer five percent back in certain categories. With some of them being big names like paypal walmart and more if you’re buying in those categories definitely try and leverage that five percent back especially because you’re getting points in those ecosystems which could be valued at two cents or more then you’d also want to check out your credit card offers which usually have to be manually added before you actually buy the item. You should already always be monitoring your credit card for fraudulent charges every now and then so just take a few more minutes to scan through the offers and manually add them to your card.

Know you’ll have high spend incoming

There’s no harm adding it and not using it speaking of credit cards. If you know that you’ll already be spending a lot of money in the next few months, consider signing up for a new credit card and trying to meet the minimum spend to get sign up bonuses.

For example if you’re able to get the american express platinum card where you can get upwards of 125 to 150,000 sign up bonus which requires a 6,000 spend in the first six months then go for it that amount of points is worth at least a thousand dollars plus and sometimes even two thousand dollars or more when used right let alone all the benefits and perks you get from the car.

Don’t get these cards if you can’t naturally hit the minimum spend but if you’re gonna spend that amount anyways then you may as well.

Saving and Useful Protection

Now if you’re shopping on amazon which most of you probably do then you want to keep your eye out for times where amazon is giving people big discounts for redeeming just one point from your favorite credit cards. These usually cover points from ecosystems like Chase, American Express, Citi and Discover and can give you anywhere from 10-15% off to sometimes 40-50% off your purchase.

Something and the next week it drops down to 100, if it does happen you could just return the item and buy it back again but what if the retailer won’t take it back like it’s a final sale or you’re past the return window well then you could use return protection instead which is available on a lot of credit cards it’s a really useful tool that will basically pay you for those items if the retailer won’t take the item back it has also saved me hundreds of dollars and if you want a credit card that has this perk.
