If your staff aren’t adept with the technology they are working with, it can be very demotivating. As an employer, it is your responsibility to make sure your staff know what they are doing to support and boost their productivity and engagement levels.

We know that if you have a large team, it can seem hard to train them all and get everyone to grips with things, but it is in fact, a lot easier than you think.

Here are 5 things you can do to improve your IT field support:

  1. E-learning – Making sure your staff are getting regular lessons on how to use the hardware and software that they are using on a daily basis is a must. This will help improve both their skills as well as their confidence, resulting in improved productivity levels. However, classroom learning might not be the method for everyone. This is where e-learning comes in. This can help a lot of people in regards to people who may feel stressed in a class environment or may feel nervous and anxious when answering and speaking in front of others. Online resources allow people to work at their own pace and hey, some people enjoy watching videos as opposed to sitting in a class reading off of a book.
  2.  Replacing lost/damaged hardware – No one likes it when they are ready to finally do some work, only to find out they don’t have the facilities to do so. If a piece of hardware goes missing, gets stolen, or simply just breaks, make sure you are able to replace it immediately! No one likes waiting around doing nothing when they have the urge and motivation to do some work.
  3. Focus on the outcome, not the process – A lot of times, staff tend to feel like they are being spied on when they have to log down everything that they do when typing up reports. Allow your staff the freedom to work at their own pace and privacy. Believe me, the outcomes will shock you.
  4.  Use your mobile more – We all have a mobile phone. So why not use it? Especially in today’s day and age, software is being optimised for both desktop as well as mobile. This means you can work on the go and speed up processes which would have rather spent a long time. Use your mobile phone to maximise efficiency.
  5.  Appropriate tech support – Not everyone is tech savvy. Some people may need additional help as opposed to others. So make sure they receive it! Nothing is more demotivating than when everyone gets something and you don’t. The singularity can be seriously demotivating and could have a toll on someone’s mental. So make sure everyone is able to receive the support they need.

We hope this blog has enlightened you on how to improve your team’s IT skills.
